This drink relies on Seedlip’s “Grove” spirit to create a citrus-based take on a classic sour cocktail. It includes some raw egg white and the “dry shake” technique to make the cocktail smooth and creamy. If you’re squeamish about raw egg, or have health issues that prevent you from eating raw egg, just omit the egg white–the drink will still be delicious.
My thoughts on this cocktail? Quite lovely. The fresh citrus juices, combined with Grove, make for a complex but subtle sour base. A little bit of simple syrup provides some sweet to balance the sour, and the egg white provides a luscious mouth feel.
Orange Grove Sour
- 2 oz. Seedlip Grove
- 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
- 3/4 oz. fresh blood orange juice
- 1/2 oz. simple syrup (or agave)
- 1 tablespoon egg white
- citrus leaf for garnish
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker–do not add ice yet. Gently shake to combine until frothy. Add ice, and shake again to chill. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with the citrus leaf.
